L’Harmonie des Rapides – Phase 1

40 Martel Street constitutes Phase 1 of Terra Verde’s L’Harmonie des Rapides project. It was the first building within greater Gatineau to receive LEED© Canada for Homes (Silver) certification in September of 2010.

Built according to rigorous standards that are more exacting than those for conventional homes and situated near the edge of the Deschênes Rapids, these units occupy a prime home site in a Gatineau revitalization zone where denser growth is encouraged. LEED© certification means that the building meets enhanced criteria concerning energy efficiency, the health of occupants and respect for the environment.

Among other special features, we should mention that 40 Martel Street received an 83% EnerGuide rating. This translates into significant heating savings when you consider that a typical home complying with the National Building Code receives between a 65% and 72% rating. We achieved this energy efficient performance from our condos by combining superior air tightness, superior insulation, heat recovery from ventilation, the installation of certified Energy Star doors and windows and an abundance of south-facing windows which allow for passive solar heating.

The LEED© For Homes certification is administrated by the Canada Green Building Council and by independent organizations that inspect and certify the adopted measures. Therefore, consumers are assured a level of quality superior to that found with typical construction practices. In Quebec, Écohabitation is the certifying organization.
